Thank you so much to everyone who helped make this year’s Bear Scare a big success! Despite the parking challenges, attendance at Bear Scare was up almost 10 percent over 2016, making this year’s event the biggest in Bear Scare history, with nearly 1,000 students, parents, teachers and friends in attendance!
An event of the size and scope of Bear Scare would not be possible without the contributions of hundreds of Madrona families, who gave of their time and resources before, during and after the event. Thank you to each and every one of you who contributed in any way, and especially to those of you who volunteered to run games, sell pizza, direct parking, or help with other activities at Bear Scare. It all makes a huge difference.
We also want to extend a special thank you to our department chairs — Brad Proffitt (Haunted House), Sharann Pollock (Trick-or-Treat Street), Jeff Pasek (Admissions), John Bennett (Pizza), Rocio Escandon (Cake Walk), Steve Engel (Pumpkin-Carving Contest), Farah Kramer (Tattoos), Jen Fisker-Andersen (Cookie Decorating) and Chris Cavanaugh (Those awesome new games!).
Lastly, we want to recognize our outgoing decorations chair, Mike Owen, and the Bear Scare Chair emeritus, Maria Owen. For the last nine years, they’ve poured their hearts (and time, and money) into Bear Scare, and have done more than just about anyone to make this event what it is today. They’ll be leaving Madrona at the end of the year, but we’ll continue building upon their foundation for years to come. Thank you, Owen family! And thank you again to all of you!
