DONATIONS NEEDED FOR BEAR SCARE
Bear Scare was a success last year due to parents' generosity! Please donate candy and "green" candy alternatives (healthy treats, peanut free treats, or party favors/little toys) for children's goodie bags. There is a bin in the family room for donations. Toys can be purchased cheaply at dollar or party stores. Last year we had over 1000 participants and this is not a fundraiser so we depend on parents to make it work. As we get closer there will be other notices regarding help needed, such as booth volunteers (1/2 hr. slots) or volunteers to bake cookies. Sign up sheets are in the family room or contact Felicia Seubert at ken.seubert@verizon.net or 425-745-9845.
SIMPLE IDEAS TO GO GREEN THIS HALLOWEEN!
If your family celebrates Halloween thinking outside the conventional candy box is easy and affordable! Consider going candy-free by handing out “treasures or choose healthier options! Great Green goodies include: honey sticks, 100% fruit leather, polished rocks and stones, stickers, soy or beeswax crayons, seed packets, play dough, organic candy and/or fair trade chocolate, feathers (believe it or not a favorite with toddlers to teens.) Don't forget to use a reusable bag for Trick or Treating! We will be incorporating “GREEN” ideas into Bear Scare this year! For more great “green” info go to www.greenhalloween.org
MIT MEETING
On October 14th at 7:00 in the Library we will be having our second M.I.T. meeting which will begin with a short and hilarious video of Sir Ken Robinson. This video discusses his book Out of Our Minds: Learning to Be Creative which Madrona staff has read as part of their planning for our "umbrella" (overarching) theme this year. Following the video we will have a discussion prior to the usual business portion of the meeting. All are, as usual, welcome to attend. Book copies are available in the main office.
AGENDA DISTRIBUTION FOR MIT MEETINGS
If you'd like to get an agenda in advance of any MIT meeting, please just email empathic_negotiation@hotmail.com. Otherwise, only board members will receive advance copies for simplicity's sake. Standing requests will, however, be honored because I'd like for everyone who wishes to be included in the agenda setting to have a voice. If you wish to discuss something at an MIT meeting and aren't able to give notice in time to get it onto the agenda, you may still bring your issue up through your rep (Primary, Intermediate, MS or DHH) or during the meeting under New Business. We welcome everybody's participation.
OCTOBER MIT- IS CREATIVITY AN IMPORTANT ATTRIBUTE FOR STUDENTS TO DEVELOP?
Our staff is exploring creativity and its importance as a 21st Century aptitude this year and we hope you will join the conversation! During the first hour of MIT (10/14 @ 7:00PM) we will view a provocative media piece featuring Sir Ken Robinson, who also authored a book our staff read this summer. You are invited to join Madrona staff in viewing Sir Ken and to share in a discussion about creativity and its importance in our children’s futures. The discussion should be lively and interesting! We hope you will join us!
