UPDATES FROM LYNDA FISCHER
As I noted in my letter last week regarding the unidentified person some students saw on campus – I spoke with Officer Foley of the Edmonds Police Department and she said there was no further information about the case to report. I did hear from our District Communications Manager, Debbie Jakala that the recently released sex offender in this neighborhood was served with a restraining order barring him from coming onto any property owned by Edmonds School District.
GRATITUDE AND SERVICE = MADRONA PARENTS
The children of this school are so fortunate to have the caring support of so many adults! I’m so grateful for every kindness! A special thanks to Linda Hood and Jim DuBois for the family room remodel work they’ve been doing. Thank you Shana Lipscomb for getting our Reading Buddies program up and running and for subbing recently for Kelly in the office. Thank you Deborah Binder for your work on behalf of UNICEF last month and to Cathy Araya who keeps our Lost & Found organized. Thank you Sarah DeMun and middle school parents for helping with the Civil War Reenactment including providing lunch! Thank you Kim Magana for keeping everyone humming on many projects and thanks also to Diana Jackson for again coordinating our Giving Tree this month. I know there are many more to thank, and many unseen kindnesses done every day. I’m grateful for all that this community does! Lynda Fischer
HOLIDAY GIVING TREE!
The Giving Tree is here and ready to be "discovered" in the family room! The Giving Tree is Madrona's program of providing holiday gifts to families in need from our community. This year we are again sponsoring families from Madrona, Woodway, and College Place. Last year we delivered gifts for over 65 people and anticipate closer to 90 this year. We will be collecting the gifts on Thursday morning, Dec. 13th for delivery that afternoon. Everyone can be a part of this program, so please stop by the family room and pick a tag and join in the fun! Thank you.
PHOTO CONTEST
Here is your chance to show off your creativity on the home page of the Madrona Bear Facts Web site. Grab your digital camera (or your parents, with permission) and compose an image that portrays December’s attribute of the month: Service. Show us what “Service” means to you and the Madrona community. There will be two levels of submissions, by classroom and by individual students. In December, we will be featuring three weekly winners and the grand prize winner will be revealed Dec. 21 and will remain on the home page through winter break for ultimate bragging rights! Submit your photo today by emailing it to contest@madronabearfacts.com. Anyone shown in your photo must NOT be covered by a "Do Not Release Information Form" as filed to Madrona K-8 School or Edmonds School District. See madronabearfacts.com for complete rules.
PLEASE IDENTIFY YOURSELF
Please remember to wear your badge at all times when you are on school property. If you do not have a badge, you can have one made as soon as we get the equipment and supplies back from the photographer. Until then, please sign in at the office and get a Madrona visitor badge. Thanks!
BAD NEWS! CAMPBELL SOUP LABELS
I’ve had to throw away many soup labels since the UPC was not included. The UPC is the only part that is needed. Please don’t give up – keep collecting! Just remember to include the UPC! Your efforts directly support our school’s health & fitness department.
INTERNET AND YOUR CHILD CLASS
Are you interested in learning more about the Internet? If you are, please contact Ellen Ernst at eernst60@aol.com ASAP. We want to get a list of interested parents/guardians, then we will discuss possible dates. Officer Aaron Greenmun of the Edmonds PD is a certified teacher of this curriculum, and is willing to work with us to find a suitable date. This is an 8 hour class and (just in case you were wondering) it cannot be taught at Madrona due to the need for unfiltered Internet connections. The class will most likely be held on a Saturday at a local Community College.
