VOLUNTEER APPRECIATION BRUNCH
Please join us tomorrow, February 14th at 9:15-10:00 in the library as we celebrate and honor our incredible volunteers here at Madrona. We are so thankful to have such great volunteers and we want to recognize each of you! All volunteers are welcome!
VOLUNTEERS HAVE BIG HEARTS!
BEST WISHES SHERIE
Our dear office manager Sherie Wahl is taking a leave for the remainder of the school year as she recovers from knee surgery. We will have a substitute in the position through June. Sherie’s last day will be this Friday 2/15. We will all miss Sherie and send our wishes for a speedy recovery!
BARB JENSEN NEEDS OUR HELP!
Our wonderful music teacher, Barb Jensen had a pretty bad fall here at school and broke both her arms. We are still collecting money for gift cards to make her life a little easier while she recovers. If you would like to donate please make a check out to MIT and specify it’s for Barb Jensen. Kim Magana will be collecting these funds and purchasing scrip/gift cards to Barb’s favorite restaurants, book stores and video stores. If you have any questions please contact Kim Magana at kimmagana@msn.com or 425-431-2911

PARENTS WHO CAN SEW NEEDED!
Seussical – is in need of a few parents to help sew costumes for the Madrona Children Theater's production this year. Costumes are really fun to sew! Many of these costumes don't require you to be a great sewer - just one that knows how to run a sewing machine! If you can help us with this creative project - contact Beth Mamoud-Howell at howelldesign@msn.com .

Making Sense of Reading: What You Can Do to Help Your Child Become a Better Reader
Are you interested in helping your child understand what they read and think more deeply about it? Feb 21st our reading specialist Kendra Wagner and our literacy lead M. Wellman will share reading comprehension strategies Madrona teachers are using in the classroom. Our goal is to give you and your child tools to support the instruction they receive in the classroom. We will demonstrate how you can support your child in the following:
- Connecting reading to your child’s background knowledge
- Creating sensory images
- Asking questions about texts
- Drawing inferences from what your child is reading
- Determining what's important – in a variety of texts
- Synthesizing ideas and creating new insights
SEUSSICAL STAGE CREW MEETING
There will be an initial Madrona Children’s Theater Stage Crew Meeting for Seussical on Wednesday, February 27 from 6 to 7 pm in the library. At this meeting we will be discussing what the stage crew actually does along with the expectations and scheduling of the crew. Both children and adults are needed and it is important to know the level of interest, so please plan on attending. Contact Kory DeMun at kdemun@comcast.net or 425.775.6027 for questions.
