MONTHLY COFFEE CONVERSATION WITH LYNDA AND CRAIG
Beginning September 24th, Lynda and Craig will once again host an informal coffee hour for parents to chat about school life. No agenda or presentations, just informal conversation. We will have the first one on Wednesday the 24th from 9:15 – 10:00 AM in the library. We’ll have coffee and some treats and make ourselves available to talk about whatever is on your mind. Mark your calendar if you’d like to chat! The dates are either a Wed. or a Friday – and we will meet 9:15 – 10:00 in the library. UPCOMING DATES:
9/24 10/29 11/21 12/17 1/14 2/18 3/20 4/15 5/15
A FEW WRONG DATES IN THE NEWSLETTER!
The Bear Facts Newsletter states that Sept. 21 & Oct 12 are non-student days. These were mistakenly taken from last year's calendar! It should read that Sept. 19 and Oct 10 are non-student days! Please make a note of this!
MIT MEETING AND VOLUNTEER FAIR!
Please join us for the first M.I.T. meeting of the year on Weds., Sept. 24th at 7:00 in the library, immediately following the Volunteer Fair which starts at 5:45. Volunteers are required to have picture ID and can have photo badges made for $5 during this time. Information about volunteerism is also available. If you need a DSL interpreter or childcare for the meeting, please let me know at empathic_negotiation@hotmail.com. We ask that you make a donation to the middle school students for childcare.
ALL PARENTS NEED TO WEAR ID ON CAMPUS
A bold emphatic reminder that all parents must wear ID or a Guest Sticker when on campus to visit or volunteer. They must sign in at the office or in the family room each time!
CURRICULUM NIGHTS
Due to the volume of parents attending MIT does not provide child care for Curriculum Night and we ask that parents only attend.

MIDDLE SCHOOL CAMP FUNDRAISER:
We plan to kick off the middle school fundraiser on Monday, September 15th. Students should get catalogs and order forms during their advisory period. This year's fundraiser is with Market Street Traders, a retail Fair Trade in store in Ballard. This is a fundraiser for INDIVIDUAL middle school students. 25% of what they sell will be put towards their individual middle school camp fee. Market Street Traders will send an additional percentage back to the communities that make the products. Students will have two weeks to sell with order forms and money due back no later than Monday, September 29th. Instructions to MS Students: Order forms can be turned in to the Middle School Camp Fundraiser box in the main office. Checks can be made out to MIT. Do not collect Sales Tax.
Items should arrive no later than the end of October, with plenty of time for holiday gifts. This is a great opportunity for our students to both earn money for camp and help their global community. There will be approximately 40 items in the catalog from communities all over the world: jewelry, soup mixes, cashmere scarves, table lamps, knit hats, hand bags, wooden toys and many more. Definitely something for everyone!
A speaker will be making a presentation about Fair Trade to the middle school during advisory period on Monday. If you'd like to preview Market Street Traders or learn more about Fair Trade products and what Fair Trade means you can visit their website at: www.marketstreettraders.com
