Drop-Off / Pick-Up Procedures
Picking up and dropping off your child by car is sometimes a challenge at Madrona, beyond just finding the school (click here for directions).
It is imperative that parents and students follow the following procedures to ensure safety and efficiency.
Never drop-off or pick-up children in the Bus area or on 236th street in front of the school.
Use Crosswalks
There are always two crossing guards to help parents and children cross safely in the morning and afternoon. One is at the entrance of the parking lot and the other is at the west entrance to the school. Parents, as well as children, should always cross at the crosswalks!
Please take a look at the diagram below detailing Madrona's parking lot. You will see there are two lanes of traffic moving at the same time as you circle the lot.
Outside Lane
The outside lane (shown as solid arrows) is for those parents who want to drop-off or pick-up their children at the curb in front of the school (don't park at the curb and leave your car). This lane should be moving continuously in the morning. In the afternoon, the lane fills up with arriving parents then it will not start to move until school is dismissed and children start to arrive and enter cars along the drop-off lane. Please be watchful for cars trying to park along the outside (west) section of parking stalls. Yield to this traffic.
When using the drop-off lane always pull forward to the front of the lane when clear - to accommodate as many cars as possible (Do not intentionally stop close to the south end of the lane to allow a shorter walk for your child if there is room ahead of you to pull forward)
Inside Lane
The inner lane (show as dotted arrows) is for those parents who are looking for parking spaces either in the parking lot or in the overflow area on the track. This lane is also used for all traffic trying to exit the parking lot.
Riding the Bus
Because our parking lot is so congested each morning and afternoon, we encourage you to have your child take the bus to school. Madrona is considered a 'choice school' and therefore doesn't have buses that come from your neighborhood directly to the school. Your child can catch a bus going to Madrona from your neighborhood school.
The Edmonds School district has launched a new tool that will help parents find where they can take their child to use bus service to Madrona. Here is the link.
Parents of enrolled students should receive a postcard detailing the location and times for bus pickup. This should arrive around mid-August.
