NEW KINDERGARTEN FAMILY INFO

We know coming into Madrona as a new parent can be overwhelming. You’re drowning in information, or you don’t know where to find the information you need, or both. Below we’ve answered some of the most frequently asked questions we hear throughout the year. We hope this makes your transition into Madrona a little easier. We’re so happy you’re here!

District Resources

The Edmonds School District website is full of information relating to school and going to school. Here you’ll find information about apps, transportation, school start and end times, free and reduced lunch, and much more. Please check with the website to see if your question may be answered there.

Who are the main staff I may need to contact and how do I contact them?

What should my kindergarten bring with them the first week of school?

  • A full change of clothes, including underwear and socks, in a Ziplock bag with their name written on it.
    • This will stay in their cubby until it is needed or the end of the year.
  • A full water bottle with their name written on it
    • It’s important to stay hydrated. Students have access to these throughout the day. They have a place to refill them near their classroom. They go home with them on a daily basis.

I keep hearing about different apps. What are those?

  • Parent Square – Communication between parents, teachers, and staff
  • Edulog – Bus tracking application
  • Skyward – Attendance, report cards, contact info, meal account balances
  • You can find more information about the different apps used at Madrona here:

How do I tell the school that my student will be absent?

How do I know what bus(es) my student will be on?

How do I know if I qualify for free and reduced lunch?

How do I see how much money is left on my student’s lunch account?

  • You can see that information your Skyward app under Food Services

How do I add money to my student’s lunch account?

What is MIT?

  • Madrona Integrated Team (MIT) is a non-profit, charitable corporation whose purpose is to support and enhance the experience of Madrona School students by sponsoring educational and related family programs, as well as enrichment activities for our students. It is similar to a PTA, but operates as its own non-profit and is not affiliated with the PTA. There is no fee to join; all Madrona students, staff, teachers and parents are automatically members.  MIT is run by an elected volunteer board of directors and is responsible for raising money for use in the classrooms and throughout school as well as for creating a community through events. Please watch for meeting dates and times to be announced.

Am I required to volunteer?

  • No. You are not required to volunteer at Madrona. However, none of our events would be possible without volunteers.

What volunteer opportunities are there at Madrona?

How am I supposed to volunteer if I work every day?

  • We have volunteer opportunities throughout the year that are after work hours or may even be done from home. Here are a few examples:
    • 30 minute shift at a table at Bear Scare, Steam Night, or Art Walk
    • Help setup or cleanup our nighttime events
    • Work given by a teacher to do at home
    • Grant Reviewer. Done 3 times a year at your own pace from home
    • Community Nights Coordinator. Setup events with places like Mod Pizza or Qdoba a few times a year to encourage a community night out
    • Bake a pie for the Pi Day Staff Lunch
